Georgia Knight, CEO of Through the Door Promotions and OPEN Magazine says of this option; “We decided to create an online publication so we could reach a larger audience both Nationally and Globally. Introducing New Springfield Collasense

05/21/2012, by Kenneth Miller No comments yet

Undenatured Collagen Type-II Clinically Proven To Be More Effective Than Glucosamine & Chondroitin

According to a recent study, Glucosamine & Chondroitin might no longer be the joint favourite for arthritis as undenatured collagen type-II was shown to be more than twice as effective in relieving joint pain and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis in a first comparing study (i).

The clinical trial compared undenatured collagen type-II with glucosamine and chondroitin on 52 people with osteoarthritis of the knee suffering from joint pain and stiffness, over 90 days. In the collagen group pain decreased by 40% whereas in the glucosamine/chondroitin group pain decreased by 15.4%. According to the Lequesne index (a functional index for the effect of pain during daily activities) collagen type-II was more than three times as effective as glucosamine/chondroitin.

Collagen Type-II could be the answer to help ease aching joints and promote joint health to the 10 million people who suffer from arthritis in the UK (ii) . The most common forms of arthritis is osteoarthritis (OA) followed by rheumatoid arthritis (RA). People with arthritis experience painfully stiff joints and decreased mobility.

In osteoarthritis the pain is often the result of wear and tear on cartilage, the protective shock-absorbing layer between joints. When cartilage wears away, joint bones rub together, causing pain and inflammation.

In rheumatoid arthritis the synovial joints are inflamed causing multiple joint destruction, as well as a wide variety of other features except the joints. Rheumatoid joint inflammation results from a deranged immune system attacking the body itself (auto-immune reaction) instead of defending it.

Painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs relieve disease symptoms, but are unable to cure arthritis. Also anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) only slow down disease progression and cannot cure the disease.

New Springfield Collasense with undenatured collagen type-II relieves arthritic symptoms in a natural way. It adds a new mechanism of action to conventional drugs.

How does New Springfield Collasense work?

Collagen is the main structural protein in the connective tissue of the body. The collagen in joint cartilage is made up of 85-90% collagen type-II.
Undenatured type-II collagen exists from a triple helix-structure of three mutually linked (cross-linked) collage fibres. At oral ingestion, specific components of the intact helical structure are recognised by the immune system in the bowel. Repeated oral intake of undenatured type II collagen will positively influence immune cells involved in arthritic joint inflammation followed by decreasing degradation of affected joint cartilage. This results in a reduction of joint pain and swelling
Undenatured colllagen type II is extracted from the breastbone (sternum) of chickens.

Springfield Collasense undenatured collagen type-II 40mg Available from good health stores, and www.natural-alternative-products.co.uk. It is recommended to take one capsule a day before a meal. The RRP is £38.95 for 60 capsules. Not suitable for vegetarians or people with an allergy /hypersensitivity to chickencollasense

Top Tips for Alleviating Arthritis

- Exercise – keep moving. Don’t be afraid to use your joints. Many people become less active when they develop arthritis because of the pain and fear of causing damage. By developing strong muscles, joints become more stable and activities such as walking and climbing stairs are easier. The best forms of aerobic exercise for people with arthritis are walking, cycling and swimming. Build up slowly.
- Hydrotherapy – Gentle exercise can be carried out in hydrotherapy pools. The
warm water soothes joints, relieves stiffness, and promotes better blood circula-tion. The water enables gentle and low impact exercise.
- Home Help – make sure your home is streamlined and easy to use. Re-arrange cupboards and drawers so items are easy to reach. Use lightweight pans, mugs or kettle. An electric can opener, cap gripper, may come in handy. Use equipment with easy-to-use buttons and choose a good mattress to sleep on.
- Posture – Watch your posture, slouching can add strain on muscles and joints. Sit down when preparing food or use a trolley to move heavy items. Shift rather than lift – slide heavy pans along a kitchen top. Change positions often – shift position or stretch every half an hour.
- Watch your Weight – Excess weight compounds the problem by putting extra strain on damaged joints.
- Massage Magic – Massaging the muscles around the joints will help ease pain and help keep you supple. Treat yourself to an aromatherapy massage.

CLINICAL RESEARCH
STUDY ONE
(Ref iii below)
Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
In five women (58-78 years) with severe joint pain, a study was done with 10mg of un-denatured collagen type-11 per day. Participants noted a significant reduction in pain, morning stiffness, stiffness after rest and pain that got worse with movement. There was also an improvement in the motion of the joint. The intake of 40mg product with 10mg of undenatured collagen type-11 at 42 days showed an average reduction of joint pain of 26 percent.

STUDY TWO
Comparison with Glucosamine/Chondroitin
According to a randomized double-blind study, undenatured collagen type-II is more than twice as effective as glucosamine/chondroitin. The study compared:
- 10mg undenatured collagen type-11 = 40mg material
- 1500mg of glucosamine and chondroitin 1200mg.

52 people with osteoarthritis of the knee suffered from joint pain and stiffness. The mean age was 58.8 years. The study lasted 90 days. In just 30 days a reduction of pain and stiffness was observed in the collagen type-11 group. Pain decreased by 20 percent. In the glucosa-mine/chondroitin group this was 6 percent.

The symptoms of arthritis were measured using the WOMAC score. This is a score for stiffness and a measurement to determine the physical mobility. The score fell 33 percent in the collagen type-II group compared to 14 percent in the glucosamine/chondroitin group. The Visual analog scale (VAS) score is a method to determine the level of pain. There was a de-crease after 90 days by 40 percent in the collagen group compared with 15.4 percent in the glucosamine/chondroitin group. According to the Lequesne index, a functional index for the effect of pain during daily activities, collage type-II was more than three times as effective as glucosamine/chondroitin.

The European Year for Active Ageing’s generations@school Competition

05/21/2012, by Kenneth Miller No comments yet

Teachers, students, seniors – keep on going! generations@school events all over Europe

Since March 1st 2012 more than 300 schools in all over Europe are participating in the generations@school competition about activities in their schools together with elderly people.

Within the European Year for Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity 2012 this special project invites schools all over Europe to open the doors of their classrooms to older generations to explore how the dialogue between generations can contribute to a better education and a better understanding of each other.

Over 60 schools already shared their intergenerational experiences and photos in the generations@school panoramio group, which you can consult and get inspired, but we have also selected for you a few great examples to follow! The smiles on the children’s and elderly faces, the testimonies from the students, show that organizing a generations@school activity means a lot of fun and a lot of mutual learning for all participants!

To participate in the generations@school competition share your event in the panoramio group until 30th June.

Teachers, students, seniors – keep on going! You can still organise such a great activity with your class children and the older people in your community, why not to do it? If you are doing already an intergenerational project or if you have recently done an event, share your experiences with us!

To participate is simple and we have all resources and help on the website to assist you!

If you are also interested in organising a generations@school activity, we would like to know about it! Just write us an e-mail with the name of your school and the class(es) that will participate as well as a date: generationsatschool@paueducation.com

Students from the school GBS in Tervuren, Belgium, went to an elderly care centre and washed all the wheelchairs!

The Secondary School in Galway City, Ireland, rehearsed with the elderly of their community a theatre play. Their public performance of “The Wizard of Oz” will be in May 2012.

Students of the High School W. Shakespeare in Timisoara, Romania, created together with seniors from a day care center a giant daisy like flower from recycled materials – a symbol of purity and children’s souls.

Pupils from the “Ary dos Santos” primary school in Montijo, Portugal, performed with the elderly of their town a theatre play called “History staged”. In a common lunch with self-made sweets, the students and the seniors collected forces for the rehearsals

In Tervel, Bulgaria, representatives of three generations celebrated together with the Kindergarten “Detelina” Easter: singing, dancing and painting eggs together made their Easter holidays unforgettable!

Students from the “Escola Secundária Poeta António Aleixo”, Portimão, Portugal invited seniors of a near elderly care home. This senior spotlighted is 97 years old and was eager to share his life experience from childhood on to retirement age. The students were very interested since it allowed them to gain knowledge about the differences in education and human rights at different times.

Students from the SCUOLA MEDIA 3 P.TOLA in Sassari, Italy, invited seniors to their school and to join their drawing lessons. Together they designed a project logo, printing for everybody t-shirts and backpacks.

Visit the generations@school website for more information and to download a resource kit to help you in your preparations. (http://www.historypin.com/gats/en/)

Anti-ageing and Hi Performance Chocolate

05/21/2012, by Eli Corning No comments yet

Cocoa Flavanols are the major antioxidants in chocolate which have been associated with multiple health benefits reported by the media from different laboratories and clinics. The main drawback of most of these studies, however, was the fact that to achieve these benefits it was required to ingest a significant amount of chocolate of 30, 50 or even 100 g per day.
This fact is maybe encouraging for “chocoholics” but, surprisingly not everybody “loves” chocolate to that degree to consume it on a daily basis. Moreover, even for those who are prepared to eat it regularly to this level, an unwanted “price tag” may accompany it – excessive calories.

To solve this problem the main-stream chocolate industry has undertaken extensive projects to breed cocoa beans which would contain increased level s of Flavanols. If they succeed this may result in the appearance on the market of a chocolate which can deliver more of these molecules. We don’t know when this may happen or how much the price of the new cocoa will be.
Meanwhile, there is good news from Cambridge, UK for chocolate lovers, where a biotech company, Lycotec, has just completed its third clinical trial on new chocolate technology, called Coco-LycosomeTM, which offers an alternative solution. This technology can protect Cocoa Flavanols in the digestive tract, and therefore increase the absorption and efficacy of these molecules from the consumed chocolate.

The increase in absorption was observed to reach 10 to 20 times more. As result of this the new chocolate was much more effective than the unmodified one in improving not only traditional metabolic and vascular parameters, but also skin and muscle oxygenation which is an essential process in controlling ageing and their performance.

The technology has no impact on the taste and texture of the chocolate, the ingredients used are safe and accepted by the food industry and it is ready for the market.
According to the company founder, Dr. Ivan Petyaev, all consumers, those who love chocolate and those who don’t, have the opportunity now to benefit from the intrinsic values of Cocoa Flavanols without compromising their health and habits.

Mobile Data Association invites digital experts to join forces with online abuse reporting project

05/21/2012, by Eddie George No comments yet

Single Point Reporting project involving the Police and Home Office to become single hub for reporting abuse over the internet

London, United Kingdom – May 21st 2012: The Mobile Data Association (MDA) is inviting digital communities to participate in a major new initiative aiming to set the standard for the reporting of abusive online behaviour.

For the past two years, the MDA has worked with several stakeholders including The Police and the UK Home Office to create a single mechanism for reporting abuse conducted over the Internet.

“An explosion of social media use across a number of platforms has seen a rapid escalation in the abuse of messaging systems – predominantly through Facebook and Twitter”, explained Mike Hawkes, Chairman of The MDA. “This has resulted in financial scams, fraud, online bullying and trolling.”

Single Point Reporting is targeting a quicker, consistent and more efficient way of reporting abuse, leading to prosecution where necessary.

“Core information required by emergency and prosecution services has already been determined, and the MDA has defined an initial Application Programme Interface (API) for discussion and further development for the relevant systems.” added Hawkes. “We intend to ultimately make the API available under free licence for all developers to be able to integrate into their packages.”

To complete the design and to engage with all interested parties, the MDA is now inviting contributions from the wider digital community to ensure that:

• all factors have been considered
• all required data are included
• all areas of potential abuse have been considered
• existing facilities are brought into the scheme.

Once captured, the data will be forwarded to a triage facility, where each report will be reviewed for forwarding to the appropriate authority and location. Data management and the extraction of statistical information – all within a high security environment – is another key factor of the scheme.

Please visit and register your interest here.

About The Mobile Data Association

Nigel Lewis-Baker, our walking miracle, terminally diagnosed with prostate cancer, has 700 miles under his belt and just 150 to go to reach Land’s End.

Please text UGXF50 £5 to 70070

Tiverton, Wednesday 9th May

Nigel Lewis-Baker has raised a lot of awareness but little money – only £4,000 in online donations. Come on England!

Lots of radio interviews, quite a few press reports, yet our ‘Love Train’ John O’Groats to Land’s End Walk is struggling to raise any real online money. Our website (www.lovetrain.org.uk) has over 3,000 hits but not enough people are donating. If just half our visitors had gift aided us £5 we would have an extra £9,000 in the bank by now.

The Prostate Project Charity has admin costs of less than 3% so 97 pence in every pound you give us will go directly towards giving men a better chance of beating prostate cancer.

“It’s too late for me” says Nigel, “but please help me reach my £25,000 online target by texting UGXF50 £5 to 70070″

This heroic man is literally dying on his feet to help prevent more men being diagnosed too late as he was. He has given up 11 weeks of his limited lifespan to leave his wife and walk 1,000 miles from one end of the country to the other. He’s raised a lot of awareness but little money. Now he’s got just 150 miles to go to reach Land’s End.

It really has been a massive effort by Nigel. He spends virtually every waking hour raising money and awareness for our charity. He’s been on the road since March 21st and we all desperately want him to reach his online fundraising goal of £25,000.

He’s got just 9 days left to achieve it. Hopefully coverage on BBC London and South and Points West News today will boost donations.

Please help him if you can
